Luis Castillo - Hit hard Sunday Castillo (1-1) took the loss Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk over five innings in a 5-3 loss against Oakland. He struck out five.

Impact Oakland got to Castillo early as he surrendered runs in the first and second innings. The veteran never really found his groove as he allowed at least one hit in each inning and allowed a fourth run to score in the fifth. This was just the second start all season in which Castillo has allowed more than three runs to score. He will carry a 2.93 ERA into his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to be this weekend against the Guardians.

Impact Frazier's sac fly gave the Mariners a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. He was also plunked and stole second in the sixth, notching his eighth steal in 12 attempts this year. The second baseman saw his modest four-game hitting streak snapped Saturday, but this was just the fifth time in 18 August games he's produced an RBI. Frazier is slashing .248/.313/.319 with three home runs, 31 RBI and 53 runs scored through 482 plate appearances.

Impact For the third time in four starts, Gilbert was unable to complete six innings. He finished Saturday's outing with just 66 pitches (46 strikes), and manager Scott Servais said after the game Gilbert tightened up after getting hit by a line drive, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. It sounds like his early exit was cautionary, so it appears the right-hander should be good to go for his projected home start versus the Guardians next week. Gilbert owns a 3.52 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 131:41 K:BB across 143.1 innings through 25 starts.

Kyle Lewis - Agrees to play at Triple-A Lewis, who has not played at Triple-A Tacoma since being optioned Aug. 10, is in the Rainiers' lineup as the designated hitter Friday.

Impact This will be the first time he has been placed on the lineup card at Triple-A since his demotion, as Lewis was apparently stunned and upset by the team's decision to bump him off the 26-man roster, according to Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times. According to Divish, Lewis has been having his own rehab therapist consult with the Mariners regarding his recovery from season-ending knee surgery in 2021. However, his absence from the Triple-A lineup over the past week has been his decision, not related to injury. The 27-year-old corner outfielder/designated hitter slashed .143/.226/.304 in 18 games in the majors and the Mariners' were reportedly frustrated by Lewis' availability to play the outfield, given his struggles at the plate.
