Justus Sheffield - Rounding into form as starter Sheffield started Triple-A Tacoma's loss to Sacramento on Sunday and allowed an earned run on four hits over five innings. He struck out six.

Impact A second-inning solo home run was the only real damage sustained by Sheffield, who's now pitched to a 3.00 ERA over nine innings across his last two starts. That sample is a significant improvement on Sheffield's first two turns with the Rainiers upon a May 1 demotion from the Mariners, as he allowed nine earned runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings in that pair of starts following four appearances out of the bullpen for Seattle in the first three weeks-plus of the season.

Matt Brash - Abysmal in latest minors outing Brash yielded five earned runs on two home runs, three walks and two wild pitches over one inning in Triple-A Tacoma's loss to Sacramento on Sunday. He struck out one.

Impact Brash had produced some encouraging results in his first four trips to the mound for the Rainiers following a May 5 demotion from the Mariners, but Sunday's outing highlighted the two biggest culprits in his getting sent down in the first place. Brash allowed three- and two-run homers during his one frame and had severe issues with his control, which evoked memories of the 1.4 HR/9 and 7.7 BB/9 he generated across five starts before being sent down. The right-hander figures to continue working out of Tacoma's bullpen for the time being while he further refines his game.

Impact Raleigh drew the start at catcher while Luis Torrens shifted to designated hitter, and the former enjoyed some rare offensive success out of the bottom of the order. The 25-year-old backstop continues to find big-league arms hard to master despite consistent production at Triple-A Tacoma, but four of his six hits with the Mariners across 57 plate appearances have left the yard.

Julio Rodríguez - Two hits including homer Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and two runs in Monday's victory over the Athletics.

Impact Rodriguez launched a three-run homer off Zach Logue in the bottom of the third frame, driving in teammates Ty France and J.P. Crawford. He later singled and scored in the fifth inning. The long ball was his fourth of the season and third in his last nine contests. Rodriguez has produced five multi-hit efforts over that stretch, batting .389 while adding seven RBI, six runs and two stolen bases to go along with the homers. The rookie is now batting .274 with four home runs, 18 RBI, 14 runs and a league-leading 12 stolen bases over 157 at-bats in 42 games this year.

Things got interesting after Lowrie, the tying-run, advanced to second on a wild pitch, but Sewald was able to get Sean Murphy to ground out to end the contest. Marco Gonzales - Struggles Monday, snags lucky win Gonzales (3-4) snatched a win Monday after he pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out three against the Athletics.

Impact Gonzales was not sharp in Monday's outing, giving up three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth. The eight hits he surrendered matched a season high while he also allowed his ninth homer of the year in the fourth frame off the bat of Chad Pinder. Nonetheless, Gonzales outdueled Athletics starter Zach Logue, who gave up seven runs over 4.2 frames. Prior to Monday, the 30-year-old Gonzales had given up three or fewer runs in all eight of his starts, but the rough outing raised his season-long ERA from 3.08 to a still respectable 3.74 over 43.1 innings.

Impact Giles suffered an injury to the tendon in his right middle finger shortly before the start of the season, which delayed his return from Tommy John surgery. He's nearly ready to return to game action for the first time since September of 2020, assuming he is indeed cleared to embark on a rehab assignment. Given the length of his absence, Giles' rehab assignment likely won't be a short one, so it's still likely several weeks until he makes his Mariners debut.

Kyle Lewis - Targeting Tuesday return Lewis (knee) won't join the team Monday as previously reported but is expected to arrive Tuesday, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

Impact The Mariners have been very careful with Lewis' rehabilitation, bringing him along slowly as he completes the final stages of his recovery from the right knee surgery he underwent last June. He'll be back one day later than previously reported, but it doesn't appear as though that's due to any sort of setback. He should play regularly once active, featuring frequently at the designated hitter spot to ease the strain on his knee.
