Mitch Haniger - Reaches deal with M's Haniger and the Mariners agreed Sunday on a one-year, $7.75 million contract to avoid arbitration, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Haniger said Sunday that he nearly finalized a deal with the Mariners prior to the deadline in March for arbitration-eligible players to secure contracts for 2022, only to run out of time. The two sides were ultimately able to work out an agreement without having to go to court, locking Haniger into the roster as Opening Day approaches. After missing significant time with injuries in 2019 and 2020, Haniger showed durability in 2021, appearing in 157 games while slashing .253/.318/.485 and establishing new career highs in home runs (39), runs (110) and RBI (100).

Impact Mejia will begin the 2022 season with Triple-A Tacoma after signing a minor-league contract with the Mariners in late February. The 27-year-old played in 17 games with the Royals over the last two seasons, batting .143 with two doubles and four RBI in 38 at-bats.

Impact Romano signed a minor-league contract with a major league invite March 22, but he'll start the year with Triple-A Tacoma. The reliever only pitched 0.1 innings this spring, allowing one hit and no runs. As a member of the Reds, Brewers and Yankees in 2021, Romano posted a putrid 6.12 ERA and 1.68 WHIP.

George Kirby - Slated to start year in minors Kirby will begin the 2022 campaign at Double-A Arkansas after Matt Brash was named the Mariners' fifth starter Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Impact Kirby has performed well in the minors to begin his career, and he'll attempt to continue making his case for a big-league roster spot early in the 2022 campaign. He had a lackluster 7.04 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 7.2 innings across three appearances (one start) this spring, but he posted a strong 12:2 K:BB. He tossed just 67.2 innings in the minors last year, and while he was unable to crack the Mariners' rotation to begin the regular season, it seems likely that the 24-year-old will make his major-league debut at some point in 2022 once he gets some more experience in the minors.

Matt Brash - Wins rotation spot Brash was officially announced as a member of Seattle's Opening Day rotation Saturday.
Impact Brash has yet to pitch above Double-A, though he's actually already spent time on the major-league roster. He was called up in the final week of last season but didn't get into a game. Brash wasn't a particularly high pick in the 2019 draft, going 113th overall, but he broke out last season, posting a 2.31 ERA in 20 outings split between High-A and Double-A. He struck out an impressive 35.1 percent of opposing batters, though he'll need to improve on his 11.9 percent walk rate. He'll be making a big jump this season, but the Mariners clearly have faith in him.

The 24-year-old made three starts at Double-A Arkansas last year, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him advance at some point in 2022.

Impact Ray will unseat Marco Gonzales as the Mariners' No. 1 starter this season after Seattle brought him aboard on a five-year, $115 million deal following his improbable run to the American League's Cy Young Award in 2021 while he was with Toronto.
