Diego Castillo - Earns win despite blown lead Castillo (5-5) got the win over the Athletics on Wednesday but allowed one run on one hit while striking out two over an inning.
Impact Castillo entered to pitch the top of the seventh with the Mariners clinging on to a 2-1 lead. He retired the first two batters he faced but then missed his location on a slider to Seth Brown, who connected on the pitch and sent it over the wall in right to tie the game. Fortunately, the Mariners were able to manufacture a run in the bottom half of the frame and held on until the end to award Castillo the win. The flame-throwing 27-year-old now has three wins, six holds and a save in 13 appearances this month and has settled in nicely in a setup role in front of Paul Sewald and Drew Steckenrider. Castillo has been very solid again this year, as he has a 2.81 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 73:17 K:BB over 57.2 innings.

Logan Gilbert - Allows one run in no-decision Gilbert allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.2 innings Wednesday against the Athletics. He did not factor into the decision.
Impact Gilbert got through five scoreless innings before Tony Kemp took him deep to right begin the sixth to finally get the Athletics on the board. Gilbert was able to get two more outs before walking Mark Canha, signaling the end of his day after 92 pitches. The 24-year-old right-hander found his stride during September, accumulating a 2.70 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 31:8 K:BB over 33.1 innings in six starts. He has certainly shown signs of living up to the hype as one of the Mariners' bright young arms. Gilbert now stands at a 4.68 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 128:28 K:BB over 119.1 innings. The Mariners are right in the fold of things for a potential wild-card spot and Gilbert could potentially see at least another start if they can secure one of the final two playoff spots.

Abraham Toro - Homers late in win Toro went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Athletics.
Impact Toro added an insurance run on late for the M's with a solo home run off Sergio Romo in the eighth to put them up 4-2. The long ball was his first since Aug. 31. The 24-year-old was cruising at the beginning of the month, hitting .323/.389/.452 through his first eight games but has since fallen back a ton, hitting just .111/.176/.175 since Sept. 11. Toro remains a bright young piece of this Mariners team and will look to build on Wednesday's homer during the final series of the season, which begins Friday against the Angels.
