Richie Palacios - Captures strong-side platoon role Palacios will start in left field and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Brewers.

Impact Palacios will stick in the lineup for the Cardinals' fourth consecutive matchup with a right-handed starting pitcher. Since receiving a call-up from Triple-A Memphis on Aug. 17, Palacios has slashed .275/.302/.549 with four home runs and a stolen base across 54 plate appearances. He should continue to occupy a strong-side platoon role in the corner outfield after the Cardinals recently placed Tyler O'Neill (foot) on the 10-day injured list.

Jake Woodford - Summoned from Triple-A The Cardinals recalled Woodford from Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Impact He'll be joining the St. Louis bullpen as a replacement for right-hander Giovanny Gallegos, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder rotator cuff tendinitis. Woodford will make his return to St. Louis' active roster for the first time since late June, as he was on the shelf for just over two months before being activated and optioned to Triple-A on Sept. 1. Since beginning his rehab assignment Aug. 10, Woodford has been getting stretched out during his time in the minors, making seven appearances over the past five weeks while pitching to a 2.18 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 28:9 K:BB over 20.2 innings.

Giovanny Gallegos - Shut down with shoulder injury The Cardinals placed Gallegos on the 15-day injured list Monday with right shoulder rotator cuff tendinitis.

Impact St. Louis recalled right-hander Jake Woodford from Triple-A Memphis to serve as a replacement on the 28-man active roster for Gallegos, whose season comes to an end as a result of the injury. Unless follow-up tests on Gallegos' shoulder that reveal structural damage, he should be in store for a relatively normal offseason and head into spring training at full health. Gallegos concludes the 2023 campaign with two wins, 10 saves, 20 holds and a 4.42 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 59:12 K:BB across 55 innings out of the St. Louis bullpen.

John King - Snags win Sunday King (1-0) allowed a run on three hits and a walk while striking out one over one inning to earn the win Sunday over the Phillies.

Impact King also took a blown save after allowing the Phillies to tie the game in the eighth inning, but the Cardinals quickly retook the lead in their half of the frame. Over 16 appearances with St. Louis, King has posted a 1.80 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, 8:4 K:BB and seven holds across 15 innings. He's at a 4.01 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 18:8 K:BB through 33.2 innings overall when accounting for his time with the Rangers. While he's seen some high-leverage work with the Cardinals, he's unlikely to be in the mix to close games with both Ryan Helsley and Giovanny Gallegos healthy.

Impact Helsley pitched himself out of some slight trouble after the Phillies had men on first and second with one out. Impact Walker's only hit of the day was a massive one, as he took Seranthony Dominguez deep to left in the eighth to put the Cardinals up 6-5, which was enough for the win. Walker now has four of his 16 home runs this month and has continued his solid run at the plate since the end of August. Over his last 17 games, the 21-year-old rookie is slashing .365/.408/.651 with five homers, 12 RBI, 12 runs scored and a 5:12 BB:K.

Impact Goldschmidt opened up the scoring with a two-run double in the third and then made some more noise with a solo blast to center in the fifth. It was his fourth game with three RBI or more this season and brought him up to five extra-base hits in 14 games this month. Though he certainly hasn't replicated his 2022 MVP form, Goldschmidt has produced another solid year, slashing .273/.366/.456 with 25 homers, 78 RBI, 85 runs and an 81:152 BB:K in 648 plate appearances.

Impact Hudson allowed just one hit through the first three innings, but the Phillies finally got to him with three runs in the fourth. Shockingly enough, Hudson's three strikeouts were his most in a start since he had seven Aug. 20. He had just five strikeouts in his previous four starts and has only managed to reach six innings once in his last six starts. The 28-year-old is up to a 5.12 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 40:30 K:BB in 70.1 innings. He's projected to face the Padres on the road in his next outing.

Impact Mikolas hung tough through four frames and trailed just 2-1 entering the fifth. However, Kyle Schwarber tagged him for a three-run blast in that inning to mar the veteran right-hander's final line. Mikolas rarely helps himself with punchouts -- he's notched exactly two in each of his past four starts -- so he largely has to rely on good control and keeping the ball in the park. The latter hasn't been a strong suit of his of late, as Mikolas has given up six homers over his past three starts -- one more than he had surrendered over his previous eight outings combined.

Impact Nootbaar hits the bench against lefty Ranger Suarez, but that isn't necessarily a sign that he's going to be platooned over the final two weeks of the season, as he was in the lineup against the previous two southpaws the Cardinals faced. He does own a much better wRC+ against righties (135) than against lefties (96) and has struck out 25.9 percent of the time against southpaws compared to just 17.4 percent against right-handers, so some platoon risk remains for next season. For now, it will be Tyler O'Neill, Tommy Edman and Jordan Walker across the outfielder for the Cardinals.
