Jacob Barnes - Added to roster The Cardinals selected Barnes' contract from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Impact Barnes has spent all of this season at the Triple-A level, collecting a 2.47 ERA and 45:22 K:BB over 51 innings at three different stops. The 33-year-old reliever will provide a fresh arm to a Cards' bullpen that's been overworked.

Matthew Liberatore - Lands on IL with tight back St. Louis placed Liberatore on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Aug. 19, with lower-back tightness, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Impact Liberatore was scheduled to return to the Cardinals' rotation Wednesday in Pittsburgh, but the back issue that arose in his previous start Aug. 16 against the Athletics did not fully respond to a period of extra rest. The young left-hander has struggled to a 6.12 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 35:21 K:BB across 50 major-league innings this year.

Andrew Knizner - Accounts for lone run in loss Knizner went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 11-1 loss to the Pirates.

Impact Knizner's fifth-inning blast was all the offense the Cardinals could put on the board. He reached the 10-homer mark for the first time in his career, and five of them have come in 17 games since the All-Star break, a span in which he's hitting .345 (19-for-55). Impact Rom is set to make his major-league debut Monday in Pittsburgh. Acquired from the Orioles in the Jack Flaherty trade, Rom allowed just one earned run while striking out 18 across 11 innings in two starts after joining Memphis. His numbers while at Triple-A Norfolk this season weren't nearly as good (5.34 ERA), although he's missed bats consistently in the minors. The Cardinals have rotation spots up for grabs down the stretch, so Rom could earn additional starts if he pitches well.

Impact He'll head back to the minors to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Drew Rom, who was called up from Memphis ahead of his first MLB start Monday in Pittsburgh. Impact One of the three pitchers the Cardinals acquired in the July 30 deal that sent lefty Jordan Montgomery and right-hander Chris Stratton to the Rangers, Roby looks set to make his St. Louis organizational debut this week. Prior to the trade, the 21-year-old had been on the shelf for the Rangers' Double-A affiliate in Frisco since early June with a right shoulder injury. Dakota Hudson - Remains undefeated Sunday Hudson (5-0) got the win Sunday over the Mets after allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven over 5.1 innings.

Impact Hudson surrendered a run in the third and then was punished by a Pete Alonso long ball in the fourth to put the Mets up 2-1. He wound up departing the game in line for the win after the Cardinals went up 3-2 in the fifth. Hudson tied a season-high with seven strikeouts and it was his fourth consecutive start allowing three or fewer earned runs. The one knock on Hudson is he's allowed at least one home run in each of his last four starts but has otherwise been the Cardinals' most consistent pitcher. He now owns a 3.95 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB in 43.1 innings (five starts) and will look to pick up his fifth consecutive win in a weekend road matchup with the Phillies.

Tommy Edman - Swipes two bags Sunday Edman went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Mets.

Impact Edman led off the game for the Cardinals with a single and a stolen base and later stole his second bag of the game in the sixth. Coming into Sunday, Edman had just one steal over his last 27 games and is now 17-for-19 this season. The 28-year-old has posted back-to-back seasons with at least 30 steals but that looks to be a longshot for him in 2023. While he hasn't been running as much, Edman has showcased more power than in recent seasons, evidenced by his .421 slugging percentage and .172 ISO, which are his highest marks since his rookie season in 2019. For the year, Edman is slashing .249/.310/.421 with 11 homers, 38 RBI, 55 runs and a 26:58 BB:K in 380 plate appearances.
