Impact Walker's hitting has faded recently -- he's gone just 4-for-26 (.154) over his last nine contests. He's managed a pair of steals in that span, giving him five thefts on the year. The 21-year-old rookie is still at a .268/.331/.426 slash line with nine home runs, 28 RBI, 26 runs scored and 10 doubles through 66 contests. If his slump lasts much longer, the Cardinals could still option him to Triple-A Memphis, though such a move may depend on how their outfield looks following Tuesday's trade deadline.

Impact Mikolas was handed the five-game ban one day after he was ejected in the second inning of the Cardinals' 10-3 loss to the Cubs for intentionally throwing consecutive pitches at Chicago's Ian Happ. A resolution on Mikolas' appeal isn't expected to come before Tuesday, so the 34-year-old should be able to take the hill that day in what would have been Jack Flaherty's turn through the rotation. Since Flaherty is a candidate to get dealt ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, the Cardinals would rather not have him pitch that day and instead prefer to go with the well-rested Mikolas, who threw only 14 pitches in his last start prior to being ejected.

JoJo Romero - Picks up save against Cubs Romero locked down his first save of the season Sunday against the Cubs after pitching a scoreless ninth while allowing one hit and striking out two.
Impact On the day the Cardinals trade current closer Jordan Hicks to the Blue Jays, Romero picks up the save. Giovanny Gallegos got the eighth inning and Romero shut the door on the Cubs' eight-game winning streak. Romero had been a little shaky as of late, giving up four runs in his last two appearances, but has been reliable as a whole since getting recalled July 4. over that span, he's accumulated two wins, two holds and a save while posting a 4.15 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB in 13 innings. It appears Romero could be the Cardinals' closer, or at least split the role with Gallegos, until Ryan Helsley (forearm) is able to return.
