Impact The lone blemish against Montgomery game in the fourth after the Nationals tallied two extra-base hits for a run. The southpaw put together one of his best starts of the year after matching a season-high seven innings pitched and winning his second decision in a row. Over his last five starts, Montgomery owns a sparkling 2.10 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 27:6 K:BB in 30 innings. With the Cardinals traveling to London this weekend, Montgomery lines up to take the mound again next week at home against the Astros.

Impact With Ryan Helsley (forearm) on the injured list, Hicks has locked down saves in three consecutive days. The flamethrowing right-hander started his career as a closer, but he struggled to stay healthy and had been limited to set-up duties when available. Nonetheless, Hicks is healthy now and has a clear path to late-inning opportunities, so he should be rostered in basically every fantasy format. Giovanny Gallegos figures to get some ninth-inning work with Helsley unavailable too, but it appears to be Hicks' job to lose for now.

Jack Flaherty - Settles down after shaky start Flaherty (4-5) earned the win Monday, allowing six runs on 10 hits and one walk over 6.1 innings against the Nationals. He struck out five.
Impact Flaherty allowed five runs through the first two frames, but he was able to keep the Cardinals within striking distance by tossing four straight scoreless innings before getting into trouble again in the seventh. It was just the third time all season that the right-hander had recorded an out in the seventh inning. Despite earning the win Monday, Flaherty has struggled over his last two starts, allowing 20 hits and 12 earned runs with a 8:4 K:BB across 10.2 innings. Before that, he'd allowed three or fewer runs in six straight starts, posting a 2.06 ERA and 1.37 WHIP during that stretch. Flaherty will look to get back on track in his next outing, which is tentatively scheduled during the Cardinals' two-game set versus the Cubs in London.

Impact The 22-year-old outfielder was a fifth-round pick in last year's draft, but it seems like the Cardinals may have gotten a steal. A left-handed hitter, Scott is one of the better athletes in all the minors and is a top-of-the-scale runner, so his stolen-base total carries more weight than that of many lower-level prospects who take advantage of batteries that can't control the run game. Scott's .129 ISO represents an area of weakness, but his 16.1 percent strikeout rate and 9.3 percent walk rate are respectable marks, even for an older hitter in the Florida State League.
