Paul DeJong - Registers third steal DeJong went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Reds.
Impact DeJong didn't contribute an RBI after logging four of them in each of the last two games, but he still had a solid effort. The shortstop's gone 7-for-23 (.304) over his last seven contests, and he's batting .291 with a .987 OPS, eight home runs, three steals, 18 RBI and 21 runs scored through 25 games overall.

Brendan Donovan - Gets aboard three times in win Donovan went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Reds.
Impact Donovan filled in at first base with Paul Goldschmidt resting his legs as the designated hitter. Prior to Tuesday's multi-hit effort, Donovan had gone 1-for-15 in his last five contests. The utility man is slashing .250/.333/.343 with three home runs, three steals, 11 RBI, 20 runs scored and four doubles through 159 plate appearances. His ability to play all around the diamond has helped him maintain fairly regular playing time despite not having a steady position. Most of Donovan's starts lately have come in the outfield with the Cardinals missing Tyler O'Neill (back) and Dylan Carlson (ankle).

Impact The first baseman took Graham Ashcraft deep in the first and third innings in a wild affair that saw the two teams combine for 10 runs in the first four frames. Remarkably, Goldschmidt has only homered in three of the last 32 games, but all three times he launched multiple long balls. He's up to nine homers in 49 games on the season to go along with a stellar .293/.404/.521 slash line.

Ryan Helsley - Escapes with sixth save Tuesday Helsley recorded his sixth save of the season in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Reds, giving up one hit and two walks in a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out one.
Impact The right-hander threw only 14 of 27 pitches for strikes and loaded the bases with two outs before getting Jonathan India to ground out and end the game. Helsley is suddenly fighting to find the strike zone, issuing four free passes in his last four appearances, but on the season he still has a 3.00 ERA and 28:10 K:BB through 21 innings.

Adam Wainwright - Bailed out by offense Wainwright (2-0) picked up the win in Tuesday's 8-5 victory over the Reds, coughing up five runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.
Impact Five of the hits off Wainwright went for extra bases, including Matt McLain's first career big-league homer in the third inning, but fortunately for the veteran right-hander the Cardinals' offense was firing on all cylinders. Wainwright has given up at least four runs in each of his four starts so far this season, and he'll carry an ugly 6.33 ERA and 10:6 K:BB through 21.1 innings into his next outing, likely to come this weekend in Cleveland.

Matthew Liberatore - Available in relief Tuesday Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Liberatore will be available in relief Tuesday night at Cincinnati, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Impact It's a bit odd that the Cardinals haven't simply installed Liberatore into their regular rotation mix given how sharp he looked in his first MLB start of the season last week against the Brewers, but they are short on bullpen options following Monday's extra-innings loss to the Reds. Liberatore appeared in relief Sunday versus the Dodgers and gave up two earned runs over one inning of work. If he's not used again out of the bullpen, he should get a starting nod later this week in Cleveland.

Impact Carlson is doubtful to be activated from the injured list when first eligible this Thursday, but he is beginning to make steady progress in his recovery from a left ankle sprain. Lars Nootbaar has been serving as the Cardinals' primary center fielder in his absence.

Impact O'Neill is still being bothered by discomfort in his lower back nearly three weeks after he originally landed on the injured list. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol acknowledged Tuesday that it's unclear where the 27-year-old outfielder stands with the injury. There is obviously no timetable for his return to the active roster at this point, and early June might now be the best-case scenario.

Impact Edman wasn't able to get his bat going in his first turn at leadoff since May 13, but he at least picked up his seventh steal of the season. The versatile 28-year-old has gone 12-for-26 (.462) over his last eight contests with a home run, four steal and three RBI in that span. He's slashing .277/.333/.466 on the season.

Ryan Helsley - Takes extra-inning loss Helsley (2-3) allowed an unearned run and walked one while striking out three over 1.1 innings, taking the extra-inning loss Monday versus the Reds.
Impact Helsley did his part to keep the game tied in the ninth inning, but a walk and a wild pitch put runners on the corners in the 10th. Nick Senzel then delivered a sacrifice fly for the walk-off win. This was the fourth time in 17 appearances that Helsley has given up a run, though the other three instances saw him yield multiple runs. He has a 3.15 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB while adding five saves, two holds and three blown saves through 20 innings.
