Impact Nootbaar got the go-ahead to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment after working out with the Cardinals ahead of Wednesday afternoon's series finale in Colorado. He's been out for less than two weeks due to a jammed left thumb and has been swinging a bat without issue for most of that time, so it should be a short rehab stint for the 25-year-old outfielder.

Ryan Helsley - Strikes out two in third save Helsley picked up the save in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Rockies, striking out two over a perfect ninth inning.

Impact After blowing his first save opportunity of the season, Helsley has been lights out. He hasn't allowed a run in four straight appearances (4.2 innings) and has at least two strikeouts in each of those games.

Impact That's if he gets through a workout Wednesday with no issues. It had seemed like the Cardinals were considering bringing Nootbaar back as soon as this weekend without a rehab assignment, but evidently that won't happen. It would push back his potential return at least a couple days.

Impact Yepez has started three of seven games since he was called up to replace Lars Nootbaar (thumb) on the active roster. While opportunities have been limited, Yepez has done well to take advantage of them, going 4-for-12 (.333) over those three contests. The 25-year-old was one of the Cardinals' last cuts in camp, but he'll likely have to settle for a short-side platoon role if he stays on the roster once Nootbaar is activated from the injured list.

Impact Gorman didn't start Tuesday, but he replaced Taylor Motter as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning. Two frames later, Gorman put the Cardinals ahead 7-6 with his solo shot. Impact Mikolas surrendered five runs in each of his first two starts of the season, and he didn't fare any better Tuesday at Coors Field. The right-hander threw 59 of his 89 pitches for strikes and surrendered three home runs, all of which went beyond 420 feet. Mikolas inked a two-year, $40 million extension with the Cardinals late in spring training, but early in 2023 he's been unable to replicate the 3.29 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 153:39 K:BB he posted in 202.1 innings last year.
