Nolan Arenado - Racks up three hits Thursday Arenado went 3-for-4 in Thursday's loss to the Marlins.
Impact The star third baseman produced nearly all of St. Louis' offense against a standout Miami pitching effort, compiling three of his team's five singles. It was the fourth multi-hit effort of the campaign for Arenado, who has gotten a hit in all but one of his 11 contests to start the season. He ranks second among qualified MLB hitters with a .405 average on the campaign.

Jordan Hicks - Suffers loss Thursday Hicks (1-1) took the loss against Miami on Thursday, pitching three innings and allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out three.
Impact Hicks is working on transitioning from the bullpen to a spot in the rotation, so he was capped at 46 pitches Thursday. The right-hander allowed only a second-inning run and kept the Marlins from registering any extra-base hits, but the Cardinals' offense was shut out, thus handing Hicks his first loss. He'll likely continue to gradually push his pitch count up over his subsequent few starts as he looks to build up to a standard starter's workload. Hicks' next outing is tentatively scheduled to come at home against the Mets early next week.

Drew VerHagen - Exits with hip injury VerHagen exited Thursday's game against the Marlins with a hip injury, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Impact VerHagen entered the game in the fourth inning to relieve Jordan Hicks, but he was only able to complete one frame before the injury flared up. Denton further reported that VerHagen had suffered from the same issue in the middle of spring training, meaning a stint on the injured list is likely.

Paul Goldschmidt - Notches steal Goldschmidt went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Marlins.
Impact Goldschmidt has only hit safely in five of his 10 games this season. He's posted a shaky .162/.295/.216 slash line with an RBI, seven runs scored, a pair of stolen bases and two doubles through 44 plate appearances. He tore the cover off the ball in spring training, so there's little reason to be concerned about Goldschmidt's long-term numbers -- he's never hit lower than .250 in any season of his career, and that came in his rookie year.

Génesis Cabrera - Picks up win Wednesday Cabrera (1-0) issued one walk and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the win Wednesday versus the Marlins.
Impact Cabrera pitched the eighth inning, and he became the pitcher of record after Nolan Arenado opened the scoring in the top of the ninth with a two-run blast. Cabrera had allowed runs in each of his last two outings before Wednesday. For the season, he's posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 5:3 K:BB with two holds in four appearances.

Tommy Edman - Swipes first bag of season Edman went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Marlins.
Impact The steal was his first of the season, on his first attempt. While Edman hasn't been running much to begin the season, he's otherwise been extremely effective, slashing .371/.421/.714 with three homers and seven RBI while hitting safely in all 10 games so far. That surge got the 26-year-old second baseman bumped up to the leadoff spot Wednesday for the first time this year.

Impact After striking out in his first three at-bats against Sandy Alcantara, Arenado turned on an Anthony Bender fastball in the top of the ninth inning to produce the game's only offense. Impact There was some concern in the spring whether Gallegos would have to share save opportunities for the Cardinals this season or be the team's primary closer, but he's answered those questions decisively through the first couple weeks. The 30-year-old right-hander has yet to allow a run over five appearances, converting all three of his save chances and posting a 5:2 K:BB over 5.1 innings.

Miles Mikolas - Sharp in Wednesday's no-decision Mikolas didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Marlins, scattering four hits over five-plus scoreless innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.
Impact He also hit a batter. The right-hander traded goose eggs with Sandy Alcantara for five frames, but after allowing a single to Garrett Cooper to lead off the sixth, Mikolas got the hook. He tossed 59 of 86 pitches for strikeouts and generated eight groundball outs without allowing a flyball out. Mikolas has looked very good to begin the season, posting a 1.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB through 15.1 innings over three starts.
