Impact Freeman has homered twice over his last four games, though that's in a stretch dating back to Aug. 26. The young infielder isn't seeing steady playing time as the Guardians instead lean on veterans while trying to compete for the AL Central lead. Freeman has added nine RBI, 15 runs scored and three stolen bases while slashing .238/.306/.354 over 126 plate appearances this season.

Impact Freeman has been out of action for just over a week with shoulder soreness that first popped up Aug. 1 versus the Astros. The fact that he's already set for a rehab assignment is a positive sign that he could be activated when first eligible. What's less clear is where Freeman might fit in the Guardians' infield once he returns, as Brayan Rocchio and Gabriel Arias have both enjoyed some success with more playing time in recent weeks.

Impact Freeman picked up the injury in Tuesday's 2-0 loss, when his shoulder acted up as he grounded out in the fourth inning. He stayed in the game for the bottom of the fourth before being replaced by Andres Gimenez in the field in the next inning. Follow-up exams on Freeman reportedly were encouraging, so he could be ready to play at some point during this weekend's series with the White Sox. The Guardians have an opening at shortstop after trading away Amed Rosario last week, but the team has thus far favored Gabriel Arias over Freeman as the primary option at the position.
