Knocks pair of hits in return Calhoun went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Astros. Impact Calhoun was activated off the 60-day injured list prior to the game after missing months with a fractured forearm. He'll get a 17-game run at the end of the season to prove he has a future with the Rangers, who must decide to keep him on the 40-man roster by tendering him a contract during the offseason. The salary increase is not exorbitant, but the organization must determine if he's a fit on the roster going forward. Calhoun appeared to be a long-term piece in 2019, when hit 21 home runs with an .847 OPS over 337 plate appearances, but he's been set back by injuries and poor hitting since. As a defensively challenged outfielder, Calhoun must hit to have a role. That means designated hitter is the likely role, but the Rangers are evaluating others, including Yohel Pozo, during the final weeks and may not want to carry two DH types.
