Impact Bowman looked like the driver to beat in both the first and second rounds of pole qualifying. However, his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, Kyle Larson, was up to the task. The driver of the No. 5 Chevrolet would go out after Bowman in round 2 and knock him off the top of the scoring pylon. However, Bowman would hang on after a strong challenge from William Byron to claim the outside pole. It's his record fifth-straight front row start in the Daytona 500.
