Impact Elliott came to Kansas in search of a championship round clinching victory. He would slug it out with a number of contenders, but chief among them Kyle Larson. Elliott was in control late but he would not be able to hold off Larson over the closing laps. The driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet would surrender the lead and slip to 3-seconds back of Larson at the checkered flag. The runner-up finish was his 14th Top 5 of the season.
