Impact Sunday was one of Larson's best Talladega performances of his career. The Hendrick Motorsports star led 32 laps and raced among the Top 5 the entire afternoon in the GEICO 500. The last lap would see him battling it out among the leaders for the win, but contact with Kurt Busch would send him off pace darting to the outside lane. It would take Larson out of contention for the win, but he'd gather in his Chevrolet and cross the finish line fourth. It was his fifth Top 5 of the season and career-best Talladega finish.

Impact This installment of the Bristol dirt race went much better for Larson than last season's. He mostly stayed out of the trouble that plagued other drivers and kept his No. 5 Chevrolet pointed towards the finish line. Larson would lead 27 total laps and take the victory in stage 1. He would have to rally back to the front late and hold off Ryan Blaney to secure a strong fourth-place finish at evening's end. It was Larson's fourth Top 5 of the season and second in the last three events.
