Leads Phoenix Test Larson was fastest in day 1 of Next-Gen testing at Phoenix Raceway Tuesday afternoon. He turned a fast lap of 131.728 mph.

Impact Larson led a contingent of Chevrolets in the Top-4 speeds at Phoenix Tuesday afternoon. The two-day test is a part of NASCAR's effort to fine-tune the Next-Gen car for short track action. Larson edged Tyler Reddick by 0.145-seconds for the fastest lap of day 1 testing.

2021 Richard Petty Driver of the Year Larson has been named the recipient of the Richard Petty Driver of the Year Award for 2021 by the National Motorsports Press Association, speedwaydigest.com reports.

Impact Larson's dominant performance last season en route to the championship made him the overwhelming choice among the National Motorsports Press Association for this prestigious award. His career-best 10-race season made him an obvious choice for the award. "It's an honor to receive the NMPA Richard Petty Driver of the Year Award," Larson said. "2021 was a great year in all the different cars I got to race. I hope I can repeat this success year after year, but I know it'll be tough. I also want to say thank you to the press and all the media members for covering the sport we all love-and look forward to a new year."
