Wins Las Vegas Pole McDowell won the pole for the Pennzoil 400 NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon. He turned a fast lap of 186.961 mph.

Impact The Spire Motorsports veteran picked up the pace from the day's earlier practice and turned in a strong lap in pole qualifying. McDowell would beat out Joey Logano to claim his first pole position of the season and seventh-career pole. He will challenge the Top 5 Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Crash and DNF at Talladega McDowell crashed and finished 37th in the YellaWood 500 NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday afternoon.

Impact Once again McDowell would lead the most laps and dominate in another superspeedway race only to find disaster in the end. The Front Row Motorsports veteran would lead a race-high 42 laps and have the field in hot pursuit most of the day. However, the lap 183 big one would take out many of the drivers battling at the front including McDowell. His No. 34 Ford would be mortally wounded and retire for the day to the garage. It was McDowell's seventh DNF of the season with three of them coming on superspeedways.
