Third in GEICO 500 McDowell finished third in the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday afternoon.
Impact McDowell would have to give up his 23rd-place starting spot on the grid and fall to the rear of the field before the green flag due to unapproved adjustments to his No. 34 Ford. The veteran driver would quickly race through the field and finish eighth to end stage 1. McDowell would be a Top 10 driver for much of the remainder of the event. Although he didn't lead any laps he would be in the running to win in the overtime finish. However, third was the best he could manage in the wild shoot out to the finish. It was McDowell's second Top-5 finish of the season.

Impact McDowell posted solid lap times in both practices but and will likely need to use them to move his way up through the field. This should wane his fantasy value some given his initial starting spot of 16th that will stick for DFS purposes.
