Fast Daytona Practice McDowell was fastest in Friday practice for the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway Friday afternoon. He turned a fast lap of 192.678 mph.

Impact The third Daytona practice would seem like a broken record. It was more of the Ford camp dominating the top of the scoring pylon. McDowell showed the way as the Top 6 spots were all drivers for the Ford brand. He edged teammate Todd Gilliland for the fastest lap of the session. McDowell has now led two of the three Daytona 500 practices and looked fine-tuned for Sunday's Great American Race.

Impact This opening session would be dominated by the Toyotas for quite a while, but the Ford drivers would get their act together late in the hour-long practice. Multiple drivers from that brand would line up and post strong laps in the draft. McDowell would lead the way with David Ragan in the No. 15 Ford close behind. They would knock the Toyotas of Joe Gibbs Racing from atop the scoring pylon. The defending Daytona 500 champion looks to have good speed in his No. 34 Ford Mustang.
