McKissic in the passing game during the Football Team's Week 2 win over the Giants, but the former has still enjoyed solid workloads through the first two contests. He's earned 38 touches (33 carries, five receptions) in total, racking up 181 yards and no touchdowns.

Meanwhile, J.D. McKissic (40.3 percent) has totaled 10 touches for 101 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown. With a capped session under his belt to kick off Week 3, Gibson doesn't seem in danger of missing time, but his status nonetheless bears watching as the week goes on.

Impact Perhaps more crucial than Gibson's final yardage total was the fact he commanded a three-down role, seeing more targets than J.D. McKissic (one) while out-carrying the combo of McKissic and Jaret Patterson by a whopping 20-to-3 margin. It certainly helps that the second-year back looked good with the extra usage, bursting through the line of scrimmage on a number of occasions. The offense may need to rely more heavily on Gibson in the coming weeks after starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was forced out of Sunday's action with a hip injury. Taylor Heinicke did well enough in relief of the grizzled veteran, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Washington rely even more on their star running back in order to take some pressure off the little-used backup.

Impact Gibson played in all four series with presumed starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, lasting the entire first quarter. Though he didn't find the end zone, Gibson did provide chunk gains of nine and seven yards on the ground as well as a 14-yard reception. Gibson has been in the news recently after Kyle Allen told the media that the team wants to use him in a Christian McCaffrey role this season. While it remains to be seen if Gibson can live up to that standard, it appears that he is fully healthy after dealing with a toe injury into the offseason and that the team is ready to fully utilize his talents as both a rusher and receiver.
