Impact With Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) listed as doubtful and trending toward missing Sunday's contest, Smith will provide the Panthers with needed Week 5 backfield depth behind projected starter Chuba Hubbard. In the team's Week 4's loss to the Cowboys, Smith logged 26 snaps and while he didn't record a carry, he made an impact in the passing game, catching all five of his targets for 48 yards. If McCaffrey is inactive versus Philadelphia, Smith is worth a look for those scrambling for RB options in PPR formats this week.

Unless McCaffrey exhibits remarkable progress heading into Sunday, he'll yield starting duties to Hubbard, who played 47 percent of the offensive snaps in the Panthers' Week 4 loss to the Cowboys and finished with 71 yards on 15 touches (13 carries, two catches). Impact This comes as somewhat of a surprise after McCaffrey made optimistic comments Thursday afternoon and then reportedly made it through Friday's practice without setbacks. None of that has been contradicted, but it is possible the Panthers never truly had Week 5 in mind for a return, preferring to play it safe even if McCaffrey shows good progress on the practice field. While coach Matt Rhule did leave the door open for McCaffrey's status to change before Sunday, it now seems more likely than not that Chuba Hubbard will get another start. Hubbard shared snaps with Rodney Smith and Royce Freeman in last week's loss to Dallas, with the rookie accounting for only 47 percent of the playing time but 13 of the 16 RB carries.
