Ruled out Mitchell (concussion/knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Cincinnati, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact With the knee injury not considered serious, it would seem Mitchell hasn't made enough progress in the concussion protocol to practice or play. His upcoming absence leaves Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty to man the San Francisco backfield Week 14, with Trey Sermon (ankle) still on IR and Trenton Cannon (concussion) ruled out for Sunday.

Impact Mitchell hasn't made any notable progress through the concussion protocol this week, which has coincided with him dealing with "knee irritation" as well. The pair of injuries may conspire to keep him sidelined for a fourth time this season, something that could be confirmed as early as the release of Friday's practice report. In the event he does sit out Sunday in Cincinnati, Mitchell will hand off backfield duties to some combo of Jeff Wilson and JaMycal Hasty.

Impact After taking an elbow to the helmet this past Sunday in Seattle, Mitchell was checked for a head injury but cleared to return, finishing the game with 25 touches on an 86 percent share of offensive snaps. But he reported concussion symptoms Monday, and his absence from Wednesday's session was attributed to that and "knee irritation." The pair of health concerns may combine to contribute to Mitchell's fourth missed game of the season Sunday in Cincinnati, but fortunately for the running back he has one more chance to get on the practice field this week. If he's unable to go this weekend, Mitchell likely will yield the backfield to some combination of Jeff Wilson (knee) and JaMycal Hasty.

In concussion protocol Mitchell entered the concussion protocol Monday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Mitchell was checked for a concussion in the fourth quarter of this past Sunday's loss at Seattle but was cleared to return. He eventually finished with 22 carries for 66 yards and one touchdown and added three catches (on three targets) for 18 yards. Having said that, coach Kyle Shanahan relayed that Mitchell reported concussion symptoms Monday morning and now will be subject to the five phases of the protocol for head injuries to receive clearance for game action. Mitchell's activity level thus will be of keen interest once the 49ers resume practicing midweek. If he's able to log a limited session Wednesday and/or Thursday, he'd be trending in a positive direction ahead of Sunday's game at Cincinnati.

Finds end zone in loss Mitchell carried the ball 22 times for 66 yards and a touchdown and caught all three of his targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 30-23 loss to the Seahawks.
Impact He didn't have a lot of success against a motivated Seattle front seven, with his longest run going for only nine yards, but Mitchell still salvaged his day with a two-yard TD in the first quarter. He also briefly left the game in the second half to be checked for a concussion, but he was able to return to action. Mitchell has seen huge volume in his last three games, amassing 290 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 76 carries, and the Niners will likely lean heavily on the rookie again in Week 14 against the Bengals.
