Hurts shoulder Saturday Brown sustained a shoulder injury during Saturday's preseason contest at Jacksonville.

Impact QB Patrick Mahomes connected with Brown on an 11-yard catch on the first play from scrimmage, but afterward the offseason addition appeared to favor his shoulder on the sideline. After a Harrison Butker field goal ended the Chiefs' first drive, Brown was seen making his way to the locker room. Considering it's the preseason and not the regular season, Brown likely has seen his last action of the team's exhibition opener.

Not playing vs. Jacksonvile Toney (back) was not seen in pregame warmups for the Chiefs' preseason opener against the Jaguars on Saturday, Blair Kerkhoff of The Kansas City Star reports.

Impact Toney has battled separate ankle and back injuries during training camp, and the 2021 first-round pick will be held out of Saturday's preseason tilt. He may get some reps in Kansas City's second preseason game against Detroit on Aug. 17, if healthy. Toney is competing for a depth spot at wide receiver, and he's also been utilized out of the backfield and on special teams as a returner during training camp.

Expectations are high for Pacheco as he looks to build upon his career-best 2023 campaign, which included 205 attempts for 935 yards (4.6 YPC) and seven scores in 14 regular-season appearances, plus a 44-244-2 receiving line.

Impact Reid has long given his starters more preseason reps than most other teams do, including superstars like Mahomes and TE Travis Kelce. It'll be the first chance in a game setting for Mahomes to connect with new Chiefs wide receivers Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy.

Of course, it's possible he also dealt with an unrelated illness. Either way, Edwads-Helaire seems to have participated in more practices than he's missed, and there's not much concern about his knowledge of the Chiefs offense in Year 5 under coach Andy Reid. There has been talk of 2023 UDFA Deneric Price challenging for the No. 2 RB role behind locked-in starter Isiah Pacheco.

Nursing hamstring issue Joseph was sidelined with a hamstring injury at the Chiefs' training camp practice Tuesday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.

Impact Joseph signed with Kansas City in January and he's expected to operate as a depth option behind Joshua Williams and Nazeeh Johnson at cornerback this season. The 24-year-old will look to get back on the practice field ahead of Saturday's preseason opener against the Jaguars.

Activated off PUP list The Chiefs activated Nnadi (triceps) from the active/PUP list Tuesday, Matt McMullen of the team's official site reports.

Impact Nnadi was placed on the PUP list at the start of training camp for a triceps injury he sustained in the Chiefs' wild-card win over the Dolphins. The 2018 third-round pick out of Florida State played in all 17 regular-season games in 2023, finishing with 29 tackles (16 solo), including 1.0 sacks, and one pass defended. Now that he's healthy, Nnadi will look to get in reps with the first-team defense alongside fellow pass rushers George Karlaftis, Mike Danna and Chris Jones (shoulder).

Impact Hayek signed with the Chiefs in May after attending Kansas City's rookie minicamp. He's battling for a depth spot at wide receiver, but missing practices and games due to injury will make his slim chance at making the 53-man roster even smaller.

Impact Jones appears to be dealing with a stinger picked up during Monday's practice. The star defensive tackle re-signed on a massive five-year contract with Kansas City earlier this offseason, and the team now figures to now take a cautious approach to his recovery. Jones could well be held out of preseason action entirely if the team has any concerns about his shoulder, with an eye toward his being fully ready to take on the Ravens in Week 1 on Thursday, Sept. 05.
