Impact Romanov will join an extensive list of banged-up defensemen on the Isles' roster -- Adam Pelech (face) and Mike Reilly (upper body) are both dealing with injuries, as well. If Romanov can't suit up Sunday versus the Rangers, either Samuel Bolduc or Grant Hutton (both of whom were recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Saturday) would likely enter the lineup.

Mike Reilly - Deemed day-to-day Reilly (upper body) is day-to-day after being injured in Friday's 4-3 win over Buffalo, the team announced Saturday.

Impact Reilly hasn't earned a point in 11 outings while contributing 15 shots goal, four blocked shots and three hits this season. He didn't participate in Saturday's practice, per Andrew Gross of Newsday, which doesn't bode well for his availability for Sunday's matchup versus the Rangers. Due to injuries to Reilly, Alexander Romanov (upper body) and Adam Pelech (face), the Islanders could insert Samuel Bolduc and Grant Hutton into the lineup for Sunday's game.

Impact The Islanders are hurting on the blueline as Adam Pelech (face) and Mike Reilly (head) were injured Friday against the Sabres. Alexander Romanov also missed practice Saturday to add to their defensive woes, forcing the Islanders to recall Bolduc and Grant Hutton. Bolduc had a goal and four assists in nine AHL games before his recall.

Mathew Barzal - Moves to LTIR, out 4-6 weeks Barzal (upper body) was placed on long-term injured reserve Saturday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday, and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Impact Barzal has registered two goals, three assists, nine blocked shots, nine hits and 23 shots on net through 10 appearances this season. With Barzal unavailable for Friday's 4-3 win over Buffalo, Anders Lee and Jean-Gabriel Pageau joined Bo Horvat on the top line.

Grant Hutton - Recalled from AHL Hutton was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Saturday, according to Andrew Gross of Newsday.

Impact Hutton had a pair of assists in nine AHL games before his recall. Hutton was recalled as Adam Pelech was placed on injured reserve after taking a puck to the face Friday against the Sabres, and Mike Reilly is day-to-day with an upper body injury suffered Friday. Hutton played two games last season with the Islanders and could get into the lineup Sunday against the Rangers, if Reilly is unable to play.

Impact After taking a puck to the face Friday against Buffalo, Pelech will now miss at least the Islanders' next three games. The 30-year-old blueliner has four assists and a minus-3 rating through 11 contests this year. Dennis Cholowski figures to rejoin the lineup in Pelech's absence.

Mathew Barzal - Placed on injured reserve Barzal (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, according to the NHL media site.

Impact Barzal was off to a slow start, scoring twice and adding three assists in 10 games. He had 23 goals and 57 assists in 80 regular-season games in 2023-24, his second-best season in his eight-year NHL career. Barzal met with the Islanders' medical staff Friday and he will miss at least a week of action with his placement on injured reserve.

Anders Lee - Distributes two apples Friday Lee notched two even-strength assists in Friday's 4-3 win over Buffalo.

Impact Lee registered his first assist of the season in the first period before adding a secondary helper in the final frame of Friday's victory. The 6-foot-3 winger added five shots, two blocks, and a plus-1 rating in 19:14 of ice time. In addition to skating on the No. 2 power-play unit, the Minnesota native is currently filling a top-line role due to injuries to Mathew Barzal (upper body) and Anthony Duclair (leg). Through 11 games, Lee has produced three goals and two assists.

Maxim Tsyplakov - Back on scoresheet in win Tsyplakov generated a goal and a helper in Friday's 4-3 victory over the Sabres.

Impact Tsyplakov scored a beautiful unassisted goal before registering the primary assist on Kyle Palmieri's power-play marker in the middle frame to help New York slip past Buffalo. In addition, Tsyplakov compiled two shots, one block, eight hits, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in 15:01 of ice time. The 26-year-old could be a valuable depth addition to fantasy managers in need of production across multiple categories. The left-shot forward is filling a top-six role and time on the power play in his first NHL season after coming over from the KHL. Tsyplakov is up to two goals, five assists, 10 PIM, 16 shots, 33 hits, three blocks, three takeaways and a plus-3 rating through 11 games.

Bo Horvat - Goal, assist in win Horvat netted a goal and produced an assist in Friday's 4-3 win over the Sabres.

Impact Horvat led New York's attack in absence of Mathew Barzal (upper body) on Friday, and it was the former's first multi-point effort of the season. Horvat fired a team-high eight shots on goal, and he added one hit and a plus-2 rating in 20:54 of ice time. The left-shot center will be heavily relied upon for offensive production while Anthony Duclair (lower body) and Barzal are sidelined. Horvat is tied for second on the team in points with seven (four goals, three assists) through 11 contests.

Ilya Sorokin - Nabs third win of season Sorokin turned aside 32 of 35 shots en route to a 4-3 victory over the Sabres on Friday.

Impact Sorokin allowed a power-play goal in the first period before conceding two tallies in the final frame, but he was crucial in staving off Buffalo's comeback attempt. The Russian netminder has been steady in net after undergoing back surgery during the offseason -- he's yet to allow more than three goals across six outings. The 29-year-old could be subjected to a larger workload in the near future as Semyon Varlamov (1-3-1) is struggling to start the season. Sorokin is up to a 3-2-1 record, .928 save percentage and 2.00 GAA.
