Mackenzie Blackwood - Allows five goals vs. Nashville Blackwood turned aside 29 of 34 shots in a 5-1 loss to Nashville on Saturday.
Impact The Sharks haven't made life easy for Blackwood, forcing him to face a staggering 128 shots while providing just five goals of offensive support over the 26-year-old's first three starts of the campaign. Under those circumstances, it's not surprising that he's 0-2-1 to open the campaign. Even still, Blackwood could have done more to help his own cause versus the Predators. He surrendered at least a goal in every period, including two markers in each of the second and third frames. Blackwood has a 3.89 GAA and .906 save percentage in 2023-24.

Tomas Hertl - Nets San Jose's lone goal Hertl scored a goal in a 5-1 loss to Nashville on Saturday.
Impact Hertl's marker came midway through the third period and merely narrowed the Predators' lead to 4-1, so it came too late to have any real influence over the game. It did extend Hertl's scoring streak to three contests, though, and brings him up to a goal and five points in five appearances this season. The 29-year-old is likely to surpass the 60-point milestone for the third consecutive campaign.

Ty Emberson - Making NHL debut Saturday Emberson will make his NHL debut Saturday in Nashville, according to Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now.
Impact Emberson was claimed off waivers from the Rangers at the end of September. He will get into the lineup as the Sharks will dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen. The 23-year-old had seven goals and 27 points in 69 games with AHL Hartford last season.

Tomas Hertl - Logs helper in loss Hertl posted an assist and two hits in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Bruins.
Impact Hertl had the lone helper on Anthony Duclair's third-period tally. While he's picked up four assists in as many contests, Hertl is still searching for a goal. He's added just six shots on net, four hits, four blocked shots, two PIM and a minus-2 rating. The 29-year-old is centering the top line and first power-play unit, so he should be at or near the top of the Sharks' scoring list for the season.

Anthony Duclair - Tallies lone goal in loss Duclair scored a goal in Thursday's 3-1 loss to the Bruins.
Impact Duclair got his first point as a Shark when he scored a goal in the third period. The winger has been given a top-six role to start the season, but he's gone minus-4 with five hits and four shots on goal. While he'll get plenty of ice time, Duclair's effectiveness in a weak offense could be limited, especially without a high-end playmaker present.

Impact Kahkonen has lost both of his starts so far, allowing seven goals on 68 shots overall. The Sharks have given him just two goals of support, and he hasn't been able to keep them in games. The 27-year-old is likely to continue splitting the crease with Mackenzie Blackwood, who was in net for the only game in which the Sharks have earned a point this year. Impact Simek blocked a shot in the preseason that has kept him out of action so far. The Sharks are not rushing him back -- when he returns, the Sharks will have as many as eight healthy defensemen, none of whom are waivers-exempt. That may force the team to pursue a trade to clear up the logjam. Simek has no specific timetable for his return, and when he's cleared to play, he'll likely rotate in and out of the lineup on the third pairing.
