Chris Smith - Strong start to 2022 Smith has 46 carries for 262 yards and two touchdowns through five games while adding 15 catches for 107 yards on 21 targets.

Impact Louisiana has kept the deep backfield rotation despite Billy Napier's departure as Smith is one of three running backs with 20 or more carries thus far. Smith has been the most effective both as a rusher and as a pass-catcher, though as no other Ragin' Cajun back has more than three targets or a YPC mark above 5.1. Louisiana gets a tough road test Wednesday against Marshall.

Chandler Fields - Effective as starter Fields has completed 54 of 96 attempts for 608 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions through five games while adding one score on the ground.

Impact Louisiana is throwing the ball more than it's running it but the slow tempo is dragging down Fields' attempts per game. Fields himself averages 6.3 yards per attempt but the seven touchdowns in fewer than 100 passes is an impressive rate. He will face a tough Marshall defense Wednesday that allows just 16 points per game.

Chandler Fields - Wins starting job Fields has won Louisiana-Lafayette's quarterback battle, Jamarcus Fitzpatrick of KATC News reports.

Impact Fields has beat out Ben Wooldridge for the starting job, and will head the Ragin Cajun's offense heading into the 2022 season. The redshirt sophomore threw for 106 yards and one touchdown in six appearances last year. He'll have experienced starters Peter LeBlanc and Michael Jefferson to throw to on the outside.
