Brandon Pfaadt - Coughs up four runs Pfaadt allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings in Sunday's loss to the Cubs. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.
Impact Pfaadt entered the game in the third inning after Joe Mantiply and Scott McGough took care of the first two frames. The Cubs immediately greeted Pfaadt with three solo homers in his first inning of work. He settled in and allowed just one more run over the next five frames. He's given up 12 earned runs over his last 13.2 innings (7.90 ERA), bumping his season ERA to 6.25. Pfaadt is currently lined up to face the Cubs at home.

Impact Marte was removed from Saturday's contest with left knee soreness after being hit by a pitch, and he's considered day-to-day after X-rays came back negative. The 29-year-old will be held out of the starting nine for at least one game, with Jace Peterson handling the keystone Sunday.

Impact The 32-year-old will make his third start of the season as the Diamondbacks decided to go with an opener ahead of expected primary pitcher Brandon Pfaadt, who was originally scheduled to start the contest. Mantiply has covered as much as three frames in an appearance this season, but he's likely to pitch only an inning or two Sunday.

Impact The Diamondbacks haven't announced their pitching plans beyond Mantiply opening the contest, but Pfaadt is the likely candidate to handle the bulk innings after originally being penciled in to start. The 24-year-old has covered just 7.2 frames and allowed eight earned runs in his past two contests, and working behind an opener could improve his chances of getting into the win column since he won't have to complete five full innings.

Paul Sewald - Secures 32nd save Sewald picked up the save in Saturday's win over the Cubs, allowing one unearned run on one hit over one inning. He did not record any strikeouts or walks.
Impact Sewald entered the game with a two-run lead in the bottom of the 10th and retired the first two batters before giving up an RBI single to Cody Bellinger to cut the lead to one run. The right-hander then got Dansby Swanson to foul out for the final out of the game, giving Sewald his fourth save already this month. Corbin Carroll - Runs wild in Chicago Carroll went 2-for-4 with two steals and a run scored in Saturday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Cubs.
Impact Carroll scored the Diamondbacks' lone run in regulation when he singled, stole second and eventually came home on Gabriel Moreno's productive groundout in the fifth inning. The outfielder is having himself a series at Wrigley, going 6-for-12 with six stolen bases, and is up to 47 thefts in 138 games.

The prospect made a third consecutive start since being promoted from Triple-A Reno, and manager Torey Lovullo moved him up the batting order against a left-hander. Lawlar batted eighth in his first two starts, which came against right-handers. He has one hit in 11 at-bats and struck out six times over 12 plate appearances.
