The manager added that he wants Davies to throw Sunday and suggested it could be another rehab start in the minors if the game is rained out. "I want him to throw the ball on Sunday," Lovullo said. "There's a chance it could be here and there's a chance it might not be here." Davies was not sharp in his most rehab outing with Triple-A Reno, giving up seven runs over three innings.

Gabriel Moreno - Goes deep in win Moreno went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 3-1 victory versus the Padres on Thursday.

Impact Moreno swatted a solo shot to right field in the fifth inning to give Arizona a 3-0 lead. It was just his fourth homer of the season and his first since returning from the injured list this past Sunday. Moreno has never displayed much pop -- his high mark for homers as a pro is 12 in A-ball in 2019 -- but his .268/.311/.370 slash line on the campaign is adequate enough for him to be locked in as Arizona's primary catcher.

Impact Closer Paul Sewald had pitched four times in five days coming into Thursday, as had top setup man Kevin Ginkel, so Arizona manager Torey Lovullo opted to go to Martinez -- who was called up from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day -- to protect a two-run lead in the eighth inning. Martinez struck out Ha-Seong Kim looking to end that frame, then returned for the ninth to try to close things out. He got himself into a bit of trouble by walking Fernando Tatis Jr. and Xander Bogaerts but escaped with the save after striking out Jake Cronenworth to end the contest. Though this was certainly an impressive performance by the 22-year-old right-hander, it's unlikely that he'll see many (if any) more save chances this season as long as Sewald and Ginkel are healthy.

Zac Gallen - Tames Padres again Thursday Gallen (13-5) earned the win over San Diego on Thursday, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 6.1 innings.

Impact Gallen made his second start against the Padres in less than a week and took home his second win, limiting San Diego to just a fifth-inning run. The Arizona ace wasn't quite as dominant as in his previous outing -- he gave up multiple hard-hit balls that went for outs and notched just three swinging strikes -- but he nonetheless finished with his fourth straight quality start. Gallen lowered his ERA to 3.17 with the strong outing, moving him into eighth place among qualified MLB pitchers. He's added a 1.05 WHIP (sixth in the league) and 168 strikeouts (also sixth-best in baseball) over 162 innings.
