Impact A lot of people were out on Patino after he struck out at a brutal 37.1 percent clip alongside a .582 OPS over 30 games with Visalia last year. However, he improved by leaps and bounds while repeating the level this year, posting an .821 OPS while trimming his strikeout rate to an acceptable 24.6 percent and running wild on the bases. Still just 20 years old, Patino has promising pop to go with his excellent speed, and he seems to be making strides in his development.

Merrill Kelly - Seven scoreless in no-decision Kelly struck out eight in seven shutout innings while allowing three hits and two walks in a 1-0 loss Sunday in Atlanta. He did not factor into the decision.

Impact Kelly efficiently mowed through the Atlanta lineup, needing just 91 pitches to complete the seven frames. Only once did Atlanta threaten to score, when they had two on and one out in the second, but Kelly quickly got out of it with a groundball double-play. The 33-year-old was masterful in July, going 4-0 with a 1.31 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 33:8 K:BB in 41.1 innings across six starts. He allowed two runs or fewer and tossed at least six innings in each July outing. His next start will likely be next weekend against Colorado.

Impact Davies spent just over a month on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation, but he resumed mound work July 23 and faced live batters Tuesday at the Diamondbacks' spring training complex. Impact McCarthy was the only Arizona batter to get beyond first base in six innings of shutout ball from Atlanta starter Ian Anderson. In the ninth, McCarthy added an RBI single. The outfielder has three multi-hit efforts in eight games since the All-Star break, batting .333 (9-for-27) in that span. He's up to a .263/.315/.432 slash line with four steals, three home runs, 12 RBI, 24 runs scored, nine doubles and a triple in 128 plate appearances. With David Peralta traded to the Rays on Saturday, McCarthy is in line for a boost in playing time, though it's unclear if he'll move into an everyday role in left field or if he'll platoon with Jordan Luplow.

Prior to Saturday, Martin hadn't allowed a homer at the major-league level this year. The poor outing raised his ERA to 4.84 and his WHIP to 1.66 through 22.1 innings. He's added 21 strikeouts and 12 walks in seven appearances (two starts), though his spot in the rotation remains only tenuously in his hands. He should be considered likely to start until Zach Davies (shoulder) or Tyler Gilbert (elbow) can return, which likely means Martin is tentatively set for a home start versus the Rockies next week.
