Impact Kelenic reached on a fielder's choice and stole second in the second inning. In the sixth, he walked but was picked off first base by Caleb Thielbar. Kelenic started in left field and batted sixth Saturday. Following a solid spring where he slugged .559, the 22-year-old has hit sixth in the Mariners' lineup in both games this season.

Diego Castillo - Picks up save Castillo earned his first save of the season, striking out two in one inning of work in a 4-3 win Saturday in Minnesota.
Impact Castillo pitched a perfect ninth as the Mariners came back to win against the Twins. Drew Streckenrider was given the save opportunity in the season opener but Castillo was called upon to close out Saturday's game. The 28-year-old primarily served as a setup man after being traded to Seattle in mid-2021 and is in the mix to receive save chances. Time will tell who manager Scott Servais will rely on most in save situations.

Tom Murphy - Homers, scores twice Murphy went 2-for-3 with a home run, walk and two runs scored in a 4-3 win Saturday in Minnesota.
Impact Murphy walked and scored in the third and hit a solo home run in the fifth off starter Sonny Gray. It was the season debut for Murphy, as Cal Raleigh started on opening day. Murphy is a defense-first catcher but has hit for power at the Major League level. He should receive a significant share of the catching responsibilities for Seattle with Raleigh getting the majority of starts.

Impact The lone run against Gilbert came from a Luis Arraez solo homer in the first. After pitching around trouble in the second, he retired the final 10 batters he faced. The lanky right-hander left the game with a 2-1 lead. A two-run home run by Byron Buxton off Andres Munoz in the eighth kept Gilbert from earning the victory. The former top prospect finished strong in his rookie season but had trouble with the long ball all year. If he's able to limit home runs, he should impress in his sophomore campaign.

Impact Ponce was a non-roster invitee with the Angels this spring but was ultimately released by the organization Monday. The right-hander will start the second game of a doubleheader at Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday.

Impact Sewald made quick work of the Twins in a 13-pitch eighth inning that saw him impressively dispose of the potent trio of Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa and Jorge Polanco. Rodriguez did find a way to display his impressive physical talent despite the empty stat line, however; Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports Rodriguez showed off an elite sprint speed of 30.0 on a short groundout in his first at-bat, while Brandon Gustafson of 710 ESPN Seattle relays that the rookie's lineout to right field in his last plate appearance of the afternoon had an exit velocity of 98.7 mph.

Robbie Ray - Tosses seven innings in win Ray (1-0) allowed one run on three hits and four walks over seven innings Friday, striking out five and earning a win over the Twins.
Impact Making his first start after landing a $115 million deal last offseason, Ray fired 96 pitches across seven innings of one-run ball. The lone blemish on his outing was a solo shot by Gio Urshela in the fourth frame. The 6-foot-2 southpaw has dealt with command issues throughout his career, registering a career 3.9 BB/9 entering the 2022 campaign, so the four walks shouldn't come as much of a surprise.
