José Fermín - Officially promoted The Cardinals recalled Fermin from Triple-A Memphis on Friday.

Impact With Tommy Edman (wrist) landing on the injured list Friday, Fermin will be called upon to provide depth to the Cards' infield. The 24-year-old hasn't been remarkable in Triple-A, slashing .167/.310/.333, although he's been on the injured list for most of the season due to a quad injury. Fermin isn't likely to get many starts while in the majors, but he could come off the bench to pinch hit occasionally.

Tommy Edman - Lands on injured list The Cardinals placed Edman on the 10-day injured list Friday with right wrist inflammation.

Impact Edman has missed the Cardinals' last two games due to issues in his right wrist. Although his MRI came back clean Thursday, his injury is apparently still severe enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. Edman will be eligible to return from the IL a few days after the All-Star break, and Jose Fermin will come up from Triple-A Memphis to take Edman's place on the roster.

José Fermín - On way to majors Fermin will be recalled by the Cardinals prior to their weekend series against the White Sox, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Impact Fermin has missed most of the minor-league season with a quad injury and is just 4-for-24 at the plate since joining Triple-A Memphis. With Tommy Edman (wrist) and Brendan Donovan (arm) banged up, Fermin will provide the Cards with some infield protection. He'll be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

Impact Carlson has logged two of his three steals this season over his last five games. The outfielder has also draw five walks in his last three contests, compared to just six walks over 14 games in June. Brendan Donovan's arm soreness has limited him to designated hitter duties, and the ripple effects on the Cardinals' lineup have helped Carlson get more regular playing time of late. For the season, Carlson has a .242/.335/.379 slash line with five home runs, 19 RBI, 20 runs scored, five doubles and a triple over 185 plate appearances.

Nolan Arenado - Launches 17th homer Arenado went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's victory over the Marlins.

Impact Arenado took Eury Perez yard for a solo shot in the sixth inning, moving his season total to 17 with three games left before the All-Star break. His home run total ranks fourth among third basemen while Arenado is third at the position in batting average (.280). Impact Flaherty did an incredible job limiting damage Thursday, keeping the Marlins off the scoreboard despite giving up nine hits. The outing marked Flaherty's second consecutive scoreless appearance, showcasing that he's fully recovered from a hip injury that forced him to miss a turn in the rotation in late June. Though the 27-year-old owns a 4.27 ERA on the season (17 starts), the statistic has been inflated by three poor outings in which he's given up 10 runs once and six runs twice. Not including the trio of starts, Flaherty has a more tolerable 2.71 ERA. He's tentatively lined up to toe the rubber in the Cardinals' first game after the All-Star break at home versus the Nationals.

Impact Edman was scratched from the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday after experiencing pain in his wrist during pregame batting practice, but it might have just been a stinger. He's not starting Thursday's series finale against the Marlins and likely won't be used off the bench, but the versatile 28-year-old will presumably be able to return this weekend versus the White Sox.
