Impact Burleson's eighth-inning blast off Jon Gray accounted for the lone run of the game. After playing regularly in late May, Burleson's hitting has slipped a bit, reducing him to a strong-side platoon role. He's gone 5-for-25 (.200) with two homers and a double over his last seven contests, and he's now slashing .226/.278/.390 with five long balls, 15 RBI, 17 runs scored and no stolen bases through 48 games overall.

Impact Since a three-run blow-up versus the Tigers on May 5, Hicks has been excellent with 12.1 scoreless innings with an 18:4 K:BB. He was able to get the win in a 1-0 contest Wednesday, keeping the game scoreless in the seventh inning before Alec Burleson put the Cardinals ahead in the eighth. Hicks is now at a 3.91 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 40:18 K:BB through 25.1 innings overall, but his recent work has helped him reclaim some work in high-leverage spots. Impact Helsley's had a couple of stumbles this season, but he's avoided prolonged slumps. This was his third clean outing in his last four. The right-hander is 7-for-11 in save chances with two holds, a 3.24 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 33:11 K:BB over 25 innings this season. Helsley continues to share the closer role with Giovanny Gallegos, who tossed a perfect eighth inning for a hold against the middle of the Rangers' lineup while Helsley was used against the bottom of the order Wednesday.

Jack Flaherty - Works through control issues Flaherty allowed three hits and five walks while striking out eight over six shutout innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Wednesday.
Impact Flaherty has walked at least four batters in five of his 13 starts this season, but he's 1-1 with three no-decisions in those outings. He was a little less dominant than opposing pitcher Jon Gray, who threw a complete game, but Flaherty was able to keep a challenging lineup in check. He hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his last six starts, and he's given up one run or less in four of them. Over his last 11 games, Contreras has gone an awful 2-for-40, though one of those hits was a home run. The prolonged slump has him down to a .211/.296/.358 slash line with five steals, six homers, 26 RBI and 23 runs scored through 56 contests. He could begin to cede some playing time to Andrew Knizner if he can't get his bat going again.
