Willson Contreras - Picks up fifth steal Contreras went 0-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Monday's 4-3 loss to the Rangers.

Impact Contreras got aboard on an error in the second inning, stole third and scored on a Paul DeJong single. Over his last 11 games, Contreras has gone an awful 2-for-40, though one of those hits was a home run. The prolonged slump has him down to a .211/.296/.358 slash line with five steals, six homers, 26 RBI and 23 runs scored through 56 contests. He could begin to cede some playing time to Andrew Knizner if he can't get his bat going again.

Génesis Cabrera - Takes loss Monday Cabrera (1-1) allowed a run on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning, taking the loss Monday versus the Rangers.

Impact Cabrera couldn't keep the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving up a walk-off single to Nathaniel Lowe. Things have gone sideways for Cabrera since the start of May -- he's allowed nine runs with a 10:11 K:BB over his last 11.1 innings. The southpaw has mostly seen low-leverage assignments while posting a 4.70 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 29:14 K:BB over 23 innings this season. He's added three holds and a blown save.

Adam Wainwright - Hangs around for 5.1 frames Wainwright didn't factor in the decision against Texas on Monday, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 5.1 innings.

Impact This was by no means a virtuoso performance for the veteran, but he rebounded from a three-run second frame to give the Cardinals decent length and allow them to stay competitive. Wainwright needed 106 pitches to get through 5.1 innings, though he retired eight of the final 10 batters he faced to go out on a good note. The right-hander missed over the first month of the campaign due to a groin injury and hasn't quite found his footing since returning May 6, posting a 5.97 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 19:10 K:BB through 31.2 innings.

Luken Baker - Another start at DH Baker is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth on Monday versus the Rangers, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Impact Baker collected two singles in his major-league debut Sunday in Pittsburgh and is back in there Monday against southpaw Martin Perez. Most of Baker's playing time could come versus lefties, although some DH at-bats could be had against righties, too, with Nolan Gorman playing more second base of late.

Luken Baker - Two hits in debut Baker went 2-for-4 in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Pirates.

Impact Baker found some success in his major-league debut, but he was one of just three Cardinals to hit safely in the game. The first baseman has found success with a refined approach at the plate this season, posting a 17.8 percent walk rate and 21.7 percent strikeout rate along with a .313/.434/.641 slash line and 18 home runs in 54 games with Triple-A Memphis. It's unclear how much playing time he'll get between first base and designated hitter -- he was at the latter position Sunday, and that may be his best path into the lineup. He may have to initially settle for a short-side platoon role, as it's unlikely Baker will hit well enough to cut into Paul Goldschmidt's playing time.
