Willson Contreras - At DH in return to Wrigley Contreras is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth for the Cardinals on Monday versus the Cubs, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Impact In his first game back at Wrigley Field since signing with the Cardinals, Contreras will occupy the DH spot which will be his new home in the coming weeks. Andrew Knizner will catch Miles Mikolas.

Drew VerHagen - Awarded win Sunday VerHagen (2-0) earned the win Sunday over the Tigers, striking out three over two perfect innings.
Impact JoJo Romero would have typically been in line for the win, but the official scorer deemed VerHagen more effective in his multi-inning appearance despite entering after the Cardinals took the lead. Over his last six outings, VerHagen has given up one run on three hits and four walks with eight strikeouts in 7.2 innings. He's been solid for the season as well with a 3.50 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB while adding four holds across 18 innings. The right-hander fills a versatile role in the Cardinals' bullpen, which has included some setup work early in 2023.

Jack Flaherty - Gets green light to start Tuesday Flaherty (hand) is listed as the Cardinals' probable starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
Impact Though Flaherty was struck on his left hand by a comebacker in his most recent start last Thursday against the Angels, he didn't suffer any sort of significant injury and was pulled from the contest mostly for performance-related reasons, as he surrendered 10 earned runs over just 2.1 innings. Flaherty will thus be good to go on his normal four days' rest to take the hill Tuesday, but a road matchup against the Cubs along with his dreadful numbers this season (6.29 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 36:22 K:BB in 34.1 innings) no longer make him the must-start fantasy option he has been for most of his career.

Steven Matz - Allows one run in no-decision Matz did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Tigers, allowing one run on five hits and no walks. He struck out two.
Impact Matz surrendered a solo home run to Spencer Torkelson in the fourth but otherwise kept the Tigers in check. He left after the fifth with a 3-1 lead, which was promptly blown by James Naile the following frame. Matz has been rocky so far this season, but Sunday was the first outing during which he did not walk a batter and gave up fewer than two runs. The 32-year-old now sits at a 5.70 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 33:15 K:BB over 36.1 innings. He lines up for a difficult matchup on the road against Boston next weekend.

Andrew Knizner - Knocks two doubles in win Knizner went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI in Sunday's 12-6 win over the Tigers.
Impact Knizner posted his first multi-hit game of the year Sunday. He doubled home a run and scored in the sixth and then doubled and scored yet again in the eighth. The 28-year-old raised his slash line to .205/.244/.333 and has just one homer, three RBI, five runs and a 2:15 BB:K over 42 plate appearances this year.

Nolan Gorman - Swipes bag in win Gorman went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 12-6 win over the Tigers.
Impact Gorman returned to the starting lineup Sunday after making consecutive appearances off the bench due to lower-back tightness. The 23-year-old reached in the sixth, stole second and scored in what wound up being a seven-run inning for the Cardinals. For the year, Gorman is slashing .255/.347/.510 with seven homers, 23 RBI, 10 runs, three steals and a 14:32 BB:K over 118 plate appearances. He has only made starts against right-handers so far.

Impact Donovan supplied the what wound up being the game winning-run for the Cardinals after a three-run blast in the sixth put them up over the Tigers 7-6. The long ball was his first since April 2 and his third overall on the year. Donovan his primarily started against righties only this season and may be in and out of the lineup this week with the Cardinals scheduled to face three lefties. For the year, the 26-year-old is slashing .268/.327/.392 with six extra base hits, nine RBI, 13 runs and a 7:20 BB:K over 107 plate appearances.

Paul Goldschmidt - Paces Cards with three-homer day Goldschmidt went 4-for-5 with three homers, four RBI and four runs scored in Sunday's 12-6 win over the Tigers.
Impact Goldschmidt homered in the first, third and eighth frames with all three traveling over 400 feet. It was the third three-homer game of his career and his third multi-hit effort over his last four games, as he helped the Cardinals finally end their eight-game losing streak. While the team is struggling as a whole, Goldschmidt is putting him near-identical numbers to his MVP campaign a season ago.
