PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have added Matt Herges as their new pitching coach.

The team announced the move on Thursday. The 49-year-old Herges replaces Mike Butcher, who was not retained after four seasons with the team.

Herges has been the San Francisco Giants bullpen coach for the past two seasons. He will be in charge of a promising D-backs pitching staff that includes Robbie Ray, Luke Weaver, Zac Gallen and Alex Young.

The D-backs finished with an 85-77 record last season and the team's 4.25 ERA was seventh out of 15 teams in the National League.

Herges pitched 11 seasons in the majors with several teams from 1999 to 2009.
