Impact Smith hasn't worked on the field for three days as a result of undisclosed tightness according to head coach Robert Saleh. Smith is coming off of a resurgent 2023 campaign with the Cowboys, but he's dealt with injuries in recent years, so the developments at camp with New York are somewhat alarming.

Impact Gipson had been sidelined since the late July with an undisclosed leg injury, making his return a notable development for the Jets' offense. In addition to profiling as New York's top return man, especially since the surprise retirement of Tarik Cohen, Gipson figures to rotate alongside Allen Lazard and Malachi Corley in the No. 3 wide receiver role behind Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams (knee), the latter of whom remains on the active/PUP list.

Braelon Allen - Top backup on first depth chart Allen is listed second at running back on the unofficial depth chart released by the Jets ahead of Saturday's preseason opener against the Commanders.

Impact Allen has impressed the coaching staff throughout spring practices and the early portion of training camp, showing strong pass blocking and receiving skills for a rookie. The 2024 fourth-round draft pick out of Wisconsin heads into the preseason as Breece Hall's top backup, ahead of 2024 fifth-round pick Isaiah Davis and 2023 fifth-round pick Israel Abanikanda. While the depth chart could still shift based on preseason results, Allen is well positioned to have a role in the Jets' offense come the regular season, though Hall's in no danger of relinquishing the starting role after compiling 1,585 scrimmage yards in 2023.

Impact Winstead bounced in and out of San Francisco's organization throughout the 2023 season but never made it past the practice squad. After a stint with the UFL's Arlington Renegades during their recent season, the 6-foot-4 wide receiver recorded 12 receptions for 175 yards and two touchdowns. The former undrafted East Carolina product will have a long way to go to see the field with the Jets, but he could more realistically land a spot on the practice squad ahead of the season.
