MLS will be defined by massive change in 2023 season

With a new team, playoff format and TV deal, MLS is going to look a lot different this season.

Andrew Thomas - Healthy to begin new season Thomas (back) is not listed in Seattle's injury report for Sunday's clash against the Rapids.

Impact Thomas had missed the final few months of last season with a stress fracture in his back that he picked up in mid-August, but the 24-year-old should be fit and available to begin the 2023 campaign. He will likely be the third-string goalkeeper behind Stefan Frei and Stefan Cleveland.

Obed Vargas - Ruled out for season opener Vargas (back) will not be available for Sunday's clash against the Rapids, according to Seattle's injury report.

Impact Vargas has been out since last June with a back injury that still hasn't fully healed, and he will miss the first game of the new campaign against Colorado this weekend.

Raul Ruidiaz - Doubtful for season opener Ruidiaz (hamstring) is listed as questionable in Seattle's injury report for Sunday's clash against the Rapids.

Impact Ruidiaz has not been able to train with his teammates this week as he continues working his way back from a hamstring injury, which puts him in doubt to at least be able to start against Colorado this weekend. Heber or Fredy Montero would be the options to replace him up front if necessary.

Albert Rusnak - Training with team Rusnak (ankle) was able to fully train with the Sounders on Wednesday, according to team reporter Jeremiah Oshan.

Impact Rusnak picked up a minor ankle injury while training on Tuesday, but he seemed back at full speed on Wednesday and shouldn't be hindered in his availability to start Sunday's season opener against the Rapids.

Heber - Joins the Sounders Heber joins the Seattle Sounders signs on a non-international contract for the 2023 season, with a club option for 2024, the Sounders announce.

Impact Heber was a big part of the New York City F.C organization as he was their top scorer during the 2019 season with 15 goals. However, after tearing his ACL in 2020, the Brazilian lost his starting role to Valentin Castellanos. He still helped the team win their first MLS Cup back in 2021 and has improved his form late last season with 10 goals in 32 appearances in 2020.
