Eduardo Rodriguez - Short outing Saturday Rodriguez allowed four hits and two walks while striking out three over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Saturday.

Impact Rodriguez failed to complete five innings for the fourth time over six starts in September. He was pulled at 62 pitches (41 strikes) Saturday, and it was likely due to him pitching into a jam that Kevin Ginkel was able to escape from. Rodriguez concludes the regular season with a 5.04 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 47:19 K:BB over 50 innings across 10 starts. It's unclear whether Rodriguez would work as a starter or a reliever if the Diamondbacks are able to make the playoffs.

Impact Suarez was the lone Arizona batter to deliver with runners in scoring position during a stinging loss that put the Diamondbacks outside the final wild-card spot. He's been one of the Diamondbacks' hottest hitters this month, posting a line of .348/.390/.641 with eight home runs, 16 RBI and 22 runs over 24 contests. Suarez enters the weekend with 29 home runs and 99 RBI.

Pavin Smith - Rough night in field Smith started in right field, went 0-for-4 and couldn't track down a couple of flyballs in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Padres.

Impact Arizona manager Torey Lovullo went with Smith's offensive potential -- six homers, .310 average in September -- over Jake McCarthy, a better defender with more range. The move backfired immediately when Smith couldn't track down leadoff batter Luis Arraez's flyball that opened the door to San Diego's four-run first inning. Smith later couldn't track down another fly from Arraez in the fourth that turned into a triple and the Padres' fifth run. The loss left the Diamondbacks outside the final wild card spot with two games left and could lead to McCarthy replacing Smith on Saturday.

Impact Carroll has hit safely in four straight games, going 5-for-15 in that span. His homer Friday was his first extra-base hit since his two-homer game in Colorado on Sept. 18. The outfielder has played in a career-high 156 games this season, producing 22 homers, 33 steals, 74 RBI, 120 runs scored and a .232/.313/.430 slash line, results well off the marks he established in 2023. However, he has a manageable 19.1 percent strikeout rate, so most of his downturn in production can be attributed to poor luck.

Merrill Kelly - Takes first loss Kelly (5-1) allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out eight over 5.2 innings, taking the loss versus the Padres on Friday.

Impact Kelly left his last start due to a right calf cramp, but it wasn't a lasting issue for the right-hander. He was shaky in the first inning Friday, allowing four of the five runs and four of the eight hits on his line as the Padres tagged him for four runs early. He also gave up an RBI triple to Luis Arraez in the fourth. Kelly wraps up his injury-plagued regular season with a 4.03 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 63:19 K:BB over 73.2 innings across 13 starts after missing nearly four months with a shoulder injury.
