Luis Torrens - Contract selected Wednesday Torrens' contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Impact Torrens was cast off the Mariners' 40-man roster in mid-August and slashed .279/.324/.508 with three home runs, five doubles, 15 RBI and seven runs over 16 games in the minors following his demotion. He'll provide additional catching depth for the Mariners since Cal Raleigh (thumb) is day-to-day.

Jarred Kelenic - Rejoins big-league club Kelenic was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Impact The 23-year-old was passed up for a promotion when big-league rosters expanded to 28 players at the start of September, but he'll join the Mariners for the last couple weeks of the regular season. Kelenic has appeared in 40 MLB games this year and has a .124/.187/.265 slash line and 38.2 percent strikeout rate, though in his latest stint in the minors he cut his strikeout rate to 15.8 percent and also posted a .950 OPS in 33 games. Whether or not he can transfer that success to the big leagues this time around remains to be seen, but he'll get a look down the stretch for Seattle.

Taylor Trammell - Sent to Tacoma Trammell was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Impact Trammell was called up by the Mariners at the beginning of September as an additional outfielder, but he started just one of the last 10 games. The 25-year-old should see more consistent at-bats in the minors, while Jarred Kelenic was recalled Wednesday.

Evan White - Sidelined at Triple-A Triple-A Tacoma placed White on its 7-day injured list Sept. 10 with hip discomfort, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Impact White has been sidelined nearly all season after requiring sports hernia surgery in March and then experiencing hip soreness in early June while on a rehab assignment. The 26-year-old returned to action in early August and was eventually reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A after his 30-day rehab window expired. White had gone 8-for-27 with three home runs and three walks over his last seven games at Tacoma to potentially put himself in the mix for a late-season call-up to Seattle, but the renewed hip discomfort likely ends those hopes.

Eugenio Suárez - Hopes to begin taking swings soon Suarez (finger) saw a hand specialist in Arizona on Monday and hopes to begin taking swings off a tee and in the batting cage at some point this week, the Associated Press reports.

Impact Suarez suffered a small fracture in the tip of his right index finger Friday against the Angels and hit the injured list a day later. The veteran slugger's potential progress in coming days should go a long way toward determining how realistic a return when first eligible Tuesday, at least as a designated hitter, will be.

Julio Rodríguez - Hitless in return Rodriguez (back) went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in a loss to the Athletics on Tuesday.

Impact The star rookie made his return to the lineup after missing three games with low-back tightness. While Rodriguez saw his bat cool off after having put together a .447 average and 1.428 OPS in his last 10 full games before his injury, the fact he was able to log a full nine innings Tuesday seems to indicate his previously ailing back has returned to normal.

Luis Castillo - Can't escape fifth inning Castillo (7-6) took the loss during Tuesday's 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Athletics, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

Impact Castillo cruised through the first four frames before surrendering five consecutive two-out baserunners and all four runs in the fifth, prompting his removal. The 29-year-old fired 54 of 85 pitches for strikes with 13 of the swinging variety, though the four strikeouts match his lowest total in a start since June 15. Castillo has alternated stellar and subpar performances through four September turns, with the result being a 2.82 ERA across 22.1 innings. He's tentatively slated to pitch again Sunday in Kansas City.
