Alek Jacob - Out with elbow inflammation Jacob was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation Saturday.
Impact The move was backdated to Friday, so Jacob could return as soon as August 12 if his inflammation has subsided by then. In three appearances during his brief time with the team, Jacob struck out five of the 10 batters he faced while not allowing a run or a hit. Jacob's roster spot will go to Jackson Wolf, whose contract was selected ahead of his big-league debut.

Jackson Wolf - Called up for debut start Wolf's contract was selected as expected Saturday ahead of his major-league debut against the Tigers.
Impact Wolf, a fourth-round pick in the 2021 draft, doesn't come with a ton of prospect pedigree, but he does come with strong numbers at the Double-A level this season. In 17 starts, he owns a 3.39 ERA, striking out 31.3 percent of opposing batters while walking just 6.0 percent. The 6-foot-7 sidearmer will skip Triple-A altogether, and it remains to be seen if his funk will continue to outweigh the fact that his fastball sits below 90 mph once he gets to the highest level.

Impact Sanchez generated a fair amount of excitement by hitting .255/.300/.681 with six homers in his first 13 games as a Padre, but things have gone downhill fast since then. In his last 29 games, he's homered just three times while slashing .159/.257/.284. Luis Campusano starts for the second consecutive game behind the plate and could be in the process of claiming the starting role.

Robert Suarez - Pitches scoreless frame in return Suarez notched a hold against the Tigers on Friday by pitching one perfect inning.
Impact Suarez made his season debut after a prolonged absence due to an elbow injury. San Diego manager Bob Melvin didn't hesitate to immediately deploy him in a high-leverage situation, bringing the right-hander in to protect a one-run eighth-inning lead. Suarez didn't show any signs of rust, retiring the side in order on 11 pitches. It appears the Padres may slot Suarez into a set-up role immediately as they seek to make up ground in the wild-card race.

Juan Soto - Two homers in win Soto went 2-for-3 with a walk, solo home run and two-run home run in Friday's 5-4 victory over Detroit.
Impact Soto put the Padres on the board with a solo shot in the first and extended the lead to 5-0 in the third with a two-run blast. He also recorded at least one walk for a fourth straight game, totaling six free passes during that stretch. After a slow start, Soto has put things together and is on pace to match his career averages. He's currently slashing .266/.423/.504 with 19 home runs, 57 RBI, 57 runs scored and six stolen bases over 98 games (433 plate appearances).

Josh Hader - Secures 24th save Hader picked up the save Friday against the Tigers, tossing a perfect ninth inning. He struck out one and didn't issue a walk.
Impact Hader hasn't given up an earned run since May 31. During that stretch, he's gone 11-for-12 in save chances while striking out 23 over 16 appearances (14.2 innings). The left-hander had a few hiccups last year, but he has returned to form in 2023 and is still one of the elite bullpen arms in MLB.

Impact Lugo tied his season high with seven strikeouts, a mark he set April 2, and recorded his first win since May 3. Since returning from the injured list June 20, the right-hander has pitched fairly well, posting a 3.24 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB over six appearances (33.1 innings).
